Format Memory Stick Duo for PSP

Format Memory Stick Duo for PSP
step-by-step how to instructions

You can format any size Memory Stick Duo for Sony PSP by following these steps:

1) make sure the Memory Stick Duo is in your PSP

2) use the arrow keys to move to 'Settings', then scroll until you get to 'System Settings'

3) look for 'Format Memory Stick'

4) select 'Yes' (make sure this is what you want to do, as all data will be deleted)

5) when the formatting is done, 'Format Completed' will appear in the display and you now have a clean Memory Stick Duo

If it's the first time converting a DVD to your PSP:

You'll need to put the converted movie files in their own special folder, one that’s not in the PSP directory, but in the main root directory of the Memory Stick (which should be 256 MB or larger). Here are the steps you need to take:

1) you will need to have a USB cable to hook up your PSP to your computer

2) make sure a Memory Stick Duo (which should be 256 MB or higher) is in your PSP, connect the PSP to your computer with your USB cable, start the PSP

2) go to the USB Connection option on the PSP menu and enable it, your PSP will now connect to your PC and will act as a hard drive - your computer will assign the drive a letter like E, F, or G, etc. (you can check under 'My Computer' to see which drive it is - it may appear as 'Removable Disc' or something like that)

3) double click on the PSP's drive to open it

4) you will now need to make a folder (go to 'File', then 'New', then 'Folder'), then name the folder in capital letters: MP Root

5) next you need to open the new MP ROOT folder and create two more new folders inside the MP ROOT folder called 100MNV01 and 100ANV01

6) in this example our computer assigned the letter E to our PSP's connection - you will have a similar letter assigned to your USB connection. You now have two new folders in which to send your converted movies, in our case they are:
E:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 (for files converted to the MPEG4 format) or E:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01 for files converted to the H.264 format.

Transfer converted movies to your PSP:

1) whichever converter you choose, makes sure you have the converted movie go to the proper folder, in our case MPEG4 movies would go to:
E:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 and H.264 movies would go to:
E:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01

2) when it comes time to name the converted movie files, you'll need to use special names for each file that the PSP will understand - for files converted using the MPEG 4 format (the default format on most converters) you name them M4V90001.MP4
for files converted using the H.264 format you name them MAQ90001.MP4
(you change the file names after you have transferred them to the folder)

3) for each movie you put in their respective folder, you'll need to change the number part of the file name - e.g. your first MPEG file would be M4V00001.MP4 then the next one would be one number higher, M4V90002.MP4 and so on... the same applies for files converted in the H.264 format

4) once your done you can disconnect the USB cable and you'll be ready to watch your converted movies on your PSP

5) go to 'Video' on your PSP and you will see the movie file... press X and you're watching the movie
